WE WANT TO LIVE AND GIVE

We, the Melody Girls of Ukraine, are for over 10 years already a pop choir of 12 amateur girls that love to sing and to reach a high level.

In our videos you can see how we sing and how our concerts look like. We used to give concerts on a regular basis in Kyiv and have made tours to Holland and England.

On you tube we have been watched for more than 120.000 times which shows how much interest there is and we are proud of that. We want to continue but the war in Ukraine has changed everything. Not only our lives and the lives of family and friends, but also our possibility to sing in the choir.

Also, we are young girls and we want to help Ukraine where we can and not just wait until it will be safe in our country to live there a normal life again and, for many of us, continue our study.

Some of us are now outside of Ukraine and some of us are still in Ukraine and through the help of internet zoom we stay together and practise whenever we can. Luckily our conductor, Ruslan, is coordinating all this and makes sure we stay in form and ready to perform.

Just before the war started we were organizing a next tour and this time to Liverpool as follow up of our earlier trip to the South of England. Plans were made to go also to the Cavern ( the famous Beatle place) and give a concert with Liverpool performers that are playing in the Cavern. On our first trip we performed together with a British brass band and with a 100 men strong male choir. So, we wanted now something else.

We want to live but we also want to give

We want to help the people in our country and as we are all young girls, we want to help first and foremost other young people in Ukraine or Ukrainians at present outside of Ukraine.

But we also have this strong passion for music and that is why we want to raise money with our concerts and use this charity funds to buy music instruments for young Ukrainians who live inside or outside of Ukraine and who have a talent for music.

The instruments are certainly not cheap and they cannot afford them and this takes away all possibilities for them to develop their musical inspiration.  But above all, one of the best things to do in times of trouble is to listen or to play music. 

We play our music and they should also be able to do it; and we help them.

We want to make a trip to Liverpool in the second week of May 2023; the week of the song festival where Ukraine will defend its winning position of last year.

Liverpool, the music city where a lot of the songs we sing are originated and where our friends of the Cavern perform every night.

This is really a unique combination of our wishes and our possibilities AND we can raise money and help many other young people with their music aspirations and hopefully make their lives a little bit softer.

We make this site to find sponsors to make it possible for the Melody Girls to go one week to Liverpool and in combination with songfestival Ukraine give as many concerts as possible and raise as much money as we can and be able to buy many, many instruments.

Charity

Trauma psychologists advise in crisis situations to keep busy and to listen or make music. We believe this and that is why we will collect funds to buy music instruments for young Ukrainians within Ukraine and also abroad, and to make it possible for them to develop their musical skills further.

Those instruments, like violins, saxophones and other instruments are expensive and not possible to buy for young people fleeing from the war or being still in the middle of it. We do it for them, and with pleasure. 

A professional small committee in The Netherlands will advise which young musicians have the necessary level to make good use of an instrument. 

Charity for orphan houses and help alike goes in a big melting pot of funds and we have chosen for a very individual support but connected with youth and music. We are very happy with this choice.

We are highly motivated to get as much money coming in as possible and we set ourselves the target to give at least six concerts in Liverpool in the week of the song festival in 2023 and use the Ukrainian delegation support to raise at least euro 17.500,- net for charity. The income from the concerts will go in full to charity and only costs directly related to our concerts will be deducted. It will set a good number of young musicians in a position to develop themselves further. 

Some of the concerts will be together with our friends in the Cavern in Liverpool and this will be in itself unique for all of us.

The concerts will be given around our representation and cooperation with the Ukraine delegation ( together with Liverpool the organization body of the song festival) and with our friends from the unique and historical place, the  Cavern. This should give us the maximum publicity that we will need. And we expect also to have concerts connected with the festival. Next to ticket sale we believe that there will also be a possibility to get extra sponsor money which makes our donation even bigger.

We see our performances also as a very good opportunity to show Ukraine from an other side than we see daily in the world news. There are not many opportunities to do this and it will hopefully show again how useless the present war is and how it destroys young people that just want to live. 

We are amateur music lovers that have been singing many years in Ukraine and will now sing in Liverpool and hopefully soon again in Ukraine. Our only true wish.

The Melody Girls had the realistic dream to go next year to the USA and Canada to give concerts and collect funds for charity. A very ambitious dream but knowing the enormous diaspora in those two countries it would be sensational. Then the Liverpool song festival was announced and we knew we had to take this opportunity and we do. In 2024 we have the USA and Canada trip put in our agenda now. We will go for it.

What do you as sponsor get?

Looking up the word “sponsor” in the dictionary says it is giving funds for support and without any counter achievement from the receiving party.

We will be very happy with sponsor parties that understand this and just want the Melody Girls to make it possible to make the trip and in Liverpool raise funds for charity purposes. We are highly thankful for this.

But we also try to do something back for our sponsors:

We will send each sponsor a video of one of our concerts in Liverpool; we will give advertisement possibilities to our sponsors during and around our concerts; we are open for any other advertisement cooperation and this can be discussed in a later stage and on individual basis; and we will report afterwards how the trip went and what funds we collected and how those funds were used.

Of course, also sponsor contributions can be made after the trip has ended as the sponsor site stays active.

Financials

We like to give a broad insight in the costs connected to making the trip possible.

• Travelling costs:  euro 8000,-
• Stay during 10 days rehearsal and stay in Liverpool:  eu 5.500
• Living costs: euro 1.500
• Transport locally: eu 1.000
• Payment of conductor and pocket money to singers and musicians:  eu 2.500
• Different costs:  eu 1.500

As said already, the costs connected to the performance are deducted from the ticket sales. It speaks for itself that when the sponsor amount exceeds the costs the surplus will be added to the charity funds. If unforeseen, the trip costs are higher than the projected eu 20.000, then we have sponsors that will put available the missing part.

Final words

Ukraine goes through terrible times and there is practically nothing that normal civilians can do to end the war.

But there is a lot that individuals can do to reduce the sorrow of other individuals and there is also something to soften the sorrow and that is music and music brought to you by girls who want to live and who want to give.

Please help us in doing this in a fantastic way and make it possible for the Melody Girls to show to everyone there is a future and a very bright one because we believe in it and make it happen, step by step.
