In november 2024 kreeg Maurice, totaal onverwacht, het ondenkbare nieuws: een agressieve vorm van maagkanker met uitzaaiingen naar het buikvlies. De prognose? Slechts enkele weken. Dankzij chemotherapie in het Amphia Ziekenhuis in Breda heeft hij gelukkig enkele maanden extra gekregen…

Maar we weigeren de hoop op te geven.

Maurice heeft in België – slechts vijf kilometer van zijn woonplaats – een innovatieve behandeling gevonden die hem kostbare tijd kan geven:

– PIPAC –

Deze behandeling kan zijn levensverwachting met (meer dan) een jaar verlengen. Een jaar waarin hij zijn drie kinderen verder kan zien opgroeien. Een jaar waarin wij samen nog waardevolle herinneringen kunnen maken. Een jaar waarin hij zijn passie kan blijven volgen: bedrijven en studenten begeleiden naar een duurzamer Nederland.

De prijs van vijf kilometer 
Had Maurice net over de grens in België gewoond, dan zou de behandeling voor een deel worden vergoed. 

Ondanks dat Maurice jarenlang trouw zijn Nederlandse zorgpremie heeft betaald, wordt deze behandeling in Nederland niet vergoed. De kosten? €20.000 – een bedrag dat hij niet alleen kan opbrengen.

Daarom vragen wij jullie hulp. Met jouw steun kan Maurice deze kans grijpen.

Een behandeling die meer betekent dan één leven
Maurice wil niet alleen voor zichzelf vechten. Hoe meer patiënten PIPAC kunnen krijgen en hoe beter de resultaten worden erkend, hoe groter de kans dat deze behandeling in de toekomst wél door Nederlandse zorgverzekeraars wordt vergoed. Zo kunnen anderen in dezelfde situatie ook meer tijd krijgen – om bewust en waardig afscheid te nemen, om herinneringen te maken, om te leven.

Had Maurice lived just across the border in Belgium, this treatment would be partly covered. 

Despite having faithfully paid his Dutch health insurance premiums for years, this treatment is unfortunately not covered in the Netherlands. The cost? €20,000 – an amount he cannot afford on his own.
