Academie Brugge DKO – Ondersteuning voor een Kunstproject
Academie Brugge DKO biedt incidenteel ondersteuning aan uitzonderlijke kunstprojecten van haar cursisten. In dit geval zijn wij bijzonder enthousiast over het onderstaande ontwerp en verlenen wij onze steun aan de realisatie ervan.
Hoewel de academie niet structureel fondsenwerving kan organiseren, maken wij voor dit project een uitzondering vanwege de artistieke kracht en overtuigingskracht van het voorstel. Door als academie de inzameling te faciliteren, kunnen wij garanderen dat alle gedoneerde middelen exclusief worden besteed aan de verwezenlijking van kunstwerken. Indien de financiering van het beoogde project niet volledig wordt bereikt, blijft het ingezamelde bedrag te allen tijde beschikbaar voor de realisatie van een kunstwerk binnen de academie. Of is er de mogelijkheid dat geld van een vorige steunactie wordt ingezet.
Beleef de spanning tussen massatoerisme en serene rust met “Invasion Tours #1” – een kunstwerk op het Brugse Begijnhof
Het Begijnhof in Brugge, een historisch toevluchtsoord waar vrouwen sinds de middeleeuwen een veilige omgeving vonden voor rust, religie en contemplatie, en straalt in al zijn pracht. Het is nu een van de meest bezochte trekpleisters van de stad. Maar hoe behouden we de oorspronkelijke rust in een stad die zucht onder (massa) toerisme?
Als student van de Academie Brugge (DKO) kreeg Wiek Vermeulen de school-opdracht een kunstwerk te creëren dat inhaakt op de waarden van het Begijnhof: rust, veiligheid, spiritualiteit en contemplatie. Het project, Invasion Tours #1, is een intrigerende en confronterende installatie die het spanningsveld tussen massatoerisme en stedelijke leefbaarheid onderzoekt.
Het concept
Een touringcar lijkt als een projectiel te zijn neergestort in de serene tuin van het Begijnhof. Dit krachtige beeld symboliseert de impact van massatoerisme en confronteert bezoekers met hun eigen rol in de drukte en ontwrichting van de openbare ruimte.
Uit onderzoek blijkt dat zeker 60% van de 20.000 bewoners rond het centrum van Brugge het gebied mijdt vanwege de toeristische drukte. Dit kunstwerk nodigt toeristen uit om stil te staan bij hun aanwezigheid en de bredere gevolgen ervan.
Een goedgekeurd project, klaar voor realisatie
Dit kunstwerk zal deel uit gaan maken van de tentoonstelling over 800 jaar begijnhof Brugge. En zal van 6 juni tot 28 sept 2025 te zien in de voormalige Bleektuin van het Begijnhof. Hoewel het oorspronkelijke plan een uitvoering op ware grootte was, is er vanwege de haalbaarheid van het project gekozen voor een toch indrukwekkende schaal van 250 cm hoogte, vervaardigd uit stevig staal van 1,5 cm dik.
Om deze ambitieuze installatie te verwezenlijken, is uw steun nodig. Na afloop van de tentoonstelling krijgt Invasion Tours #1 een voorlopige prive plek in de gemeente Sluis, waar het te koop zal worden aangeboden tegen enkel de kosten van maken, vervoer en plaatsing, met de hoop op een permanente publieke bestemming.

Academy Bruges DKO – Support for an Art Project
Academy Bruges DKO occasionally provides support for exceptional art projects by its students. In this case, we are particularly enthusiastic about the design below and are offering our support for its realization.
Although the academy cannot structurally organize fundraising, we are making an exception for this project due to the artistic strength and persuasive nature of the proposal. By facilitating the collection of funds, we can guarantee that all donated resources will be used exclusively for the realization of artworks. If the full financing of the intended project is not achieved, the collected amount will always remain available for the realization of an artwork within the academy. Additionally, funds from a previous support initiative may be used if applicable.
Experience the Tension Between Mass Tourism and Serene Tranquility with “Invasion Tours #1” – an Artwork at the Bruges Beguinage
The Beguinage in Bruges, a historic sanctuary where women have found a safe haven for peace, religion, and contemplation since the Middle Ages, still radiates its timeless beauty. Today, it is one of the most visited attractions in the city. But how can we preserve its original tranquility in a city struggling under the weight of (mass) tourism?
As a student at Academy Bruges (DKO), Wiek Vermeulen was given the school assignment to create an artwork that aligns with the values of the Beguinage: peace, safety, spirituality, and contemplation. The project, Invasion Tours #1, is an intriguing and thought-provoking installation that explores the tension between mass tourism and urban livability.
The Concept
A tour bus appears to have crashed like a projectile into the serene garden of the Beguinage. This powerful image symbolizes the impact of mass tourism and confronts visitors with their own role in the congestion and disruption of public spaces.
Research shows that at least 60% of the 20,000 residents around Bruges' city center avoid the area due to tourist overcrowding. This artwork invites tourists to reflect on their presence and its broader consequences.
An Approved Project, Ready for Realization
This artwork will be part of the exhibition marking 800 years of the Bruges Beguinage and will be displayed from June 6 to September 28, 2025, in the former Bleaching Garden of the Beguinage. While the original plan envisioned a full-scale execution, feasibility considerations led to a still-impressive scale of 250 cm in height, crafted from sturdy steel 1.5 cm thick.
To realize this ambitious installation, your support is needed. After the exhibition, Invasion Tours #1 will be temporarily housed in the municipality of Sluis, where it will be offered for sale at cost price, covering only production, transportation, and installation, with the hope of finding a permanent public location.

L'Académie de Bruges DKO apporte occasionnellement son soutien à des projets artistiques exceptionnels de ses étudiants. Dans ce cas précis, nous sommes particulièrement enthousiastes à propos du projet ci-dessous et nous soutenons pleinement sa réalisation.
Bien que l'académie ne puisse pas organiser de collecte de fonds de manière structurelle, nous faisons une exception pour ce projet en raison de sa force artistique et de la puissance de sa proposition. En facilitant la collecte, nous pouvons garantir que tous les fonds donnés seront exclusivement consacrés à la réalisation des œuvres d’art. Si le financement du projet envisagé n'est pas entièrement atteint, le montant collecté restera disponible en permanence pour la réalisation d'une œuvre artistique au sein de l'académie. Il est également possible d’utiliser des fonds issus d’une précédente action de soutien.

Le Béguinage de Bruges, un refuge historique où, depuis le Moyen Âge, des femmes ont trouvé un havre de paix pour le repos, la religion et la contemplation, brille dans toute sa splendeur. Aujourd’hui, il est l’un des sites les plus visités de la ville. Mais comment préserver la quiétude originelle d’un lieu dans une ville qui souffre du tourisme de masse ?
En tant qu’étudiant à l’Académie de Bruges (DKO), Wiek Vermeulen a reçu pour mission de créer une œuvre d’art qui s’inscrive dans les valeurs du Béguinage : calme, sécurité, spiritualité et contemplation. Son projet, Invasion Tours #1, est une installation intrigante et percutante qui explore la tension entre le tourisme de masse et la qualité de vie urbaine.
Le concept
Un autocar semble s’être écrasé tel un projectile dans le jardin serein du Béguinage. Cette image saisissante symbolise l’impact du tourisme de masse et confronte les visiteurs à leur propre rôle dans la surfréquentation et la perturbation de l’espace public.
Des études montrent qu’au moins 60 % des 20 000 habitants vivant autour du centre de Bruges évitent la zone en raison de la pression touristique. Cette œuvre invite les touristes à réfléchir à leur présence et aux conséquences plus larges qu’elle entraîne.
Un projet approuvé, prêt à être réalisé
Cette œuvre d’art fera partie de l’exposition consacrée aux 800 ans du Béguinage de Bruges et sera visible du 6 juin au 28 septembre 2025 dans l’ancien jardin de blanchissage du Béguinage. Bien que le projet initial ait été conçu à l’échelle réelle, des considérations de faisabilité ont conduit à une adaptation : une sculpture de 250 cm de hauteur, réalisée en acier robuste de 1,5 cm d’épaisseur.
Pour concrétiser cette installation ambitieuse, votre soutien est nécessaire. Après l’exposition, Invasion Tours #1 sera temporairement installé en privé dans la commune de Sluis, où il sera proposé à la vente au prix coûtant (fabrication, transport et installation), dans l’espoir d’une destination publique permanente.
