8 maanden oud en al zo'n verhaal.
De kinderwens was groot bij Charlotte en Jules. Eerst werd César geboren. Twee jaar later was ook zij daar - een koningswens. Camille deed de eerste keer haar oogjes open op 23 februari 2023 en was een kloeke, gezonde baby zoals ze zeggen. Ze bezorgde hen de gelukkigste dag van hun leven, hun gezin was compleet.
Maar helaas, na amper vijf maanden werd het plots volledig zwart voor hun ogen. De diagnose leukemie werd vastgesteld. K a n k e r ? Het woord dat niemand wil uitspreken. Toch niet bij hen?
Acute Lymfatische Leukemie.
Camille haar diagnose: Acute Lymfatische Leukemie. Deze bloedkanker is een levensbedreigende ziekte. In korte tijd neemt een snelle woekering van kwaadaardige leukemiecellen de plaats in van de normale bloedaanmaak. Ze verspreiden zich door het lichaam via bloed en lymfevaten en breiden zich mogelijk uit via het ruggenmerg naar het centraal zenuwstelsel.
De behandeling tegen ALL duurt in totaal zo’n twee jaar. Hiervan zijn de eerste 10 maanden zeer intensief. Veel soorten chemo, narcoses voor lumbaal- en beenmergpuncties en af en toe een cortisonekuur ertussen. De overige maanden zijn ‘onderhoudend’. Camille zal sowieso twee jaar geen normaal leven kunnen leiden. Zo zal ze bijvoorbeeld niet naar de crèche kunnen vanwege haar lage immuniteit. Charlotte en Jules blijven thuis voor haar.
Het doel van de actie.
Wanneer zoiets je gezin overkomt, ga je in ‘survival mode’. Zorgen voor Camille neemt alles over. Hun leven staat de komende twee jaar stil. Naast de mentale en emotionele klap, heeft deze situatie uiteraard ook een financieel gevolg: verlies aan loon, medische kosten, revalidatie,...
Daarom roepen we zo veel mogelijk mensen op hen te ondersteunen zodat ze zich hier ook geen extra zorgen over hoeven te maken. Iedere bijdrage helpt hierbij.

8 months old and already such a story.
The desire for children was great with Charlotte and Jules. First, Cesar was born. Two years later she too was there - a king's wish. Camille opened her eyes for the first time on Feb. 23, 2023, and was a chunky, healthy baby as they say. She gave them the happiest day of their lives; their family was complete.
But unfortunately, after just five months, things suddenly went completely black before their eyes. They were diagnosed with leukemia. C a n c e r? The word no one wants to utter. Surely not with them?
Acute Lymphatic Leukemia.
Camille her diagnosis: Acute Lymphatic Leukemia. This blood cancer is a life-threatening disease. In a short period of time, a rapid proliferation of malignant leukemia cells takes the place of normal blood production. They spread throughout the body through blood and lymph vessels and may spread through the spinal cord to the central nervous system.
Treatment against ALL takes a total of about two years. Of this, the first 10 months are very intensive. Many types of chemo, anesthesias for lumbar and bone marrow punctures, and occasional cortisone treatment in between. The remaining months are “maintence”. Camille will not be able to live a normal life for two years anyway. For example, she will not be able to attend daycare because of her low immunity. Charlotte and Jules will stay home for her.
The purpose of the action.
When something like this happens to your family, you go into “survival mode”. Caring for Camille takes over everything. Their lives stand still for the next two years. Besides the mental and emotional blow, this situation obviously also has a financial consequence: loss of wages, medical expenses, rehabilitation,....
Therefore, we are calling on as many people as possible to support them so that they do not have to worry about this either. Every contribution helps.
