Help this entrepreneur to build a community
This entrepreneur does not want to build something based on charity or handouts.
Hi everyone,
Today I experienced something that truly touched my heart and reminded me how powerful community-driven initiatives can be.
A woman I recently met here surprised me by taking me into one of the townships. There I met an inspiring local entrepreneur who runs a small workshop where handmade bags are created together with people from the community.
What makes his work so powerful is not just the craft itself, but the purpose behind it. A large part of the income from these bags goes directly toward supporting children in the township. This helps them receive school supplies, shoes, and the basic things they need to continue their education. Something that might seem small to many of us can make the difference between a child staying in school or dropping out.
I had the opportunity to make my own bag there, which was already a very special experience 😍!
But what truly inspired me is the philosophy behind this initiative.
This entrepreneur does not want to build something based on charity or handouts. His vision is about dignity, independence, and long-term opportunity. He wants to hire people from the community, teach them the craft, and give them the chance to earn a stable income. By learning this skill they can support themselves and their families.
At the same time, producing more bags means more income for the project and therefore more support for children who need help staying in school.
It becomes a self-sustaining cycle:
skills → work → income → education → stronger community.
Right now he has the opportunity to grow the workshop and create jobs. His goal is to hire three people from the community and train them in the craft so they can build a future for themselves.
To make this possible he needs €7,000.
This amount would cover the salaries of three employees for an entire year while they learn the trade and help expand production.
Think about the impact of that for a moment.
Three jobs means three families with income.
More bags means more support for children.
More children staying in school means more future opportunities.
This is not about giving temporary help. It is about building something that can keep growing from within the community itself.
I will personally donate an amount to support this initiative, and if anyone feels inspired to contribute as well, it would be incredibly appreciated. Every euro truly helps move this vision forward.
If you happen to be visiting Cape Town and would like to see the workshop, meet this inspiring entrepreneur, learn about the project, or experience the township in a respectful way, please feel free to send me a private message. I would be happy to connect you directly.
Sometimes meaningful change does not come from large organizations or big campaigns. Sometimes it starts in a small workshop, with a few tools, a skill being passed on, and people who believe that building opportunities together is the most powerful way forward.
And honestly… those are often the ideas that change the most lives.
