On April 14, 2025, Nicolás Barros’s life changed forever. While working as a construction assistant in Poland, a 400-kilogram mechanical arm suddenly collapsed, striking his head and causing a life-threatening skull fracture.

When Nicolás was rushed to a hospital in Warsaw, he learned a painful truth: his employer had never enrolled him in any insurance plan. As a result, the full cost of surgery and medical care fell entirely on him.

Now, more than two months later, Nicolás is facing over a €18,000 in medical debt. Far from home, and without much support, he is also coming to terms with a heartbreaking reality: Nicolás has lost his mobility, is dependent on daily care, and faces an uncertain future filled with ongoing rehabilitation costs.

El 14 de abril de 2025, la vida de Nicolás Barros cambió para siempre. Mientras trabajaba como ayudante en una obra de construcción en Polonia, un brazo mecánico de 400 kilogramos colapsó repentinamente, golpeándolo en la cabeza y provocándole una fractura craneal que puso en riesgo su vida.

Al ser trasladado de urgencia a un hospital en Varsovia, Nicolás descubrió una dolorosa realidad: su empleador nunca lo había afiliado a un seguro. Como resultado, todos los costos de la cirugía y la atención médica recayeron completamente sobre él.

Hoy, más de dos meses después, Nicolás enfrenta una deuda médica de más de 18.000 Euros. Lejos de casa y sin mucho apoyo, también está afrontando una dura realidad: ha perdido la movilidad, depende de cuidados diarios y enfrenta un futuro incierto con altos costos de rehabilitación por delante.

Op 14 april 2025 veranderde het leven van Nicolás Barros voorgoed. Tijdens zijn werk als bouwassistent in Polen stortte plotseling een 400 kilo zware mechanische arm in, die hem op het hoofd raakte en een levensbedreigende schedelbreuk veroorzaakte.

Toen Nicolás met spoed naar een ziekenhuis in Warschau werd gebracht, kwam hij tot een pijnlijke ontdekking: zijn werkgever had hem nooit verzekerd. Hierdoor kwamen alle kosten voor de operatie en medische zorg volledig voor zijn eigen rekening.

Nu, meer dan twee maanden later, staat Nicolás voor een medische schuld van meer dan €18.000. Ver van huis en met weinig steun moet hij bovendien omgaan met een hartverscheurende realiteit: hij is zijn mobiliteit kwijt, afhankelijk van dagelijkse zorg en kijkt aan tegen een onzekere toekomst vol dure revalidatiekosten.
