Dear Friends and Supporters,

In early 2023, a missile strike destroyed our home in northern Saltivka, Kharkiv, Ukraine, leaving two families—mine and our neighbors’—without a place to live. The attack reduced two sections of our building to rubble, stripping us of our belongings, stability, and sense of safety. With limited savings, we faced the harsh reality of starting over in the midst of war.

Since then, my family and our neighbors have relied on collective sites and shelters for survival. While we are grateful for temporary refuge, these conditions have taken a heavy toll, particularly on our elderly family members, whose health has deteriorated significantly due to unstable living environments. My mother, grandmother, grandfather, and our neighbors’ elderly mother and grandmother depend on us, as Anton, our neighbor, and I are the only breadwinners for both families. Tragically, I grew up without a father, and Anton’s father was lost in the first month of Russia’s invasion, leaving us to carry the full weight of responsibility.

Despite pooling all our savings and receiving some government assistance, we still fall short of affording a modest apartment in a safer region, away from the frontline. Anton and I have managed to keep our jobs, which cover basic necessities like food and medical expenses, but the dream of a stable home—with electricity, water, and heating—remains out of reach as summer fades and colder months approach. A safe home would not only provide shelter but also restore hope and dignity for our families, giving our elderly loved ones a chance to heal and thrive.
