Zonder Powerchair Hockey Sportrolstoel, Geen Nationaal Team Voor Dijana
Dijana heeft een elektrische sportrolstoel nodig die aangepast is aan de noden van haar spierziekte.
Powerchair hockey is één van de enige teamsporten om te beoefenen, wanneer je een ernstige beperking hebt. Toch wordt de enige hulpmiddel om deze sport te kunnen beoefenen, in België gezien als luxe. Sinds wanneer is sporten iets luxueus?
De 24-jarige Dijana Lešić uit Antwerpen zie je over het powerchair hockey veld flitsen. Dit van de ene, naar de andere helft. Haar Bosnische temperament kun je genadeloos voelen in haar speelstijl. Wild, doordacht en op gevoel.
Door het leven gaat Dijana als zelfstandige grafisch ontwerper en social media marketeer. Ook is ze medeoprichter van APHC VZW. Toch is haar echte uitlaatklep, powerchair hockey. Deze Antwerpse leeft met de progressieve spierziekte, SMA. Een spierziekte dat de Vlaming niet ongewoon tussen de oren klinkt. Dankzij haar spierziekte leerde Dijana in 2009 deze sport kennen, waar ze als negenjarige verliefd op werd.
Toen hoopte ze al op een uitnodiging van het nationale powerchair hockey team. Op 13 maart 2023 (afgelopen maandag), ging deze wens in vervulling. Spijtig genoeg moet Dijana voor nu, de oproep 'on hold' zetten. Het enige dat in haar pad staat, om effectief deel te nemen aan deze nationale ploeg, is het niet hebben van een eigen sportrolstoel. Om op internationaal niveau te blijven groeien, mist ze een sportrolstoel.
"Ze noemen me op het veld vaak a pain in the ass—wat ik, eerlijk gezegd, als compliment opvat. Mijn rol op het veld is om de tegenstander het leven zuur te maken tijdens die 40 minuten durende hockeymatch. Het zou jammer zijn om niet verder te mogen groeien in deze sport."
Sinds wanneer is sporten iets luxueus?
In Nederland daarentegen, ontstond een fonds waar Nederlandse spelers een eigen opleg hebben van € 250,-. De rest betaalt het fonds. Dit begint bij de rolstoel zelf, aanpassingen die nodig zijn voor de speler en ze bieden ook een onderhoudsbudget aan. In België spreken we over een eigen opleg die minstens 60 x zo hoog is. 15.000 euro welgeteld, waar je enkel de rolstoel mee betaald, zonder al te grote aanpassingen. Met een spierziekte, zoals SMA, zijn grotere aanpassingen nodig om de speler zo comfortabel en veilig mogelijk te stellen om te sporten. Met in het achterhoofd dat hulpstukken van zo'n sportrolstoel duurder zijn dan bij gewone rolwagens en een onderhoudsbudget nodig is, mikken we op een inzamelbedrag van € 20.000.
Sporten biedt meer kwaliteit in ieders leven, met of zonder een beperking. Naast werken en studeren, hoort iedereen vrij te bepalen welke sport zij of hij beoefent. Of het hockeyen, padellen, skiën, voetballen of basketballen is. De Belgische overheid staat niet stil dat powerchair hockey één van de enige sporten zijn dat mensen, zoals Dijana, in teamverband kunnen doen.
"Vanaf wanneer mogen personen met een ernstige handicap, zoals ik, zelf beslissen welke sport we uitoefenen?" vraagt Dijana zich af.
Dijana's opvallendste eigenschap is het bewijzen dat iets wel kan, ook al zegt de wereld dat het niet lukt. Een koppig karakter. Daarom lanceert ze samen met haar ouders, broer en persoonlijke assistente een crowdfunding, om een sportrolstoel te kunnen kopen. Zo kan ze 'ja' antwoorden op de uitnodiging van het nationale ploeg!
Help Dijana het tegendeel te bewijzen, door haar crowdfunding campagne te steunen, op eender welke manier. Deze actie (en hopelijk het gesprek die hieruit voortkomt), is al één manier om mensen met een ernstige handicap op wereldniveau te laten sporten—ook als het een teamsport is.
Jouw klein centje, betekent voor Dijana enorm veel!
Powerchair hockey is one of the only team sports to practice when you have a severe disability. Nevertheless, the only aid to practice this sport, is seen as a luxury in Belgium. Since when is sports something luxurious?
The 24-year-old Dijana Lešić from Antwerp can be seen flashing across the powerchair hockey field. From one half, to the other. Her Bosnian temperament can be felt mercilessly in her playing style. Wild, thoughtful and with much feeling.
Dijana goes through life as an independent graphic designer and social media marketer. She is also co-founder of APHC VZW (a non-profit). Still, her real outlet in life is powerchair hockey. She lives with the progressive muscle disease, SMA. A muscle disease that does sound common to the Flemish people. Thanks to her muscle disease, Dijana got to know this sport in 2009, which she fell in love with as a nine-year-old.
At that time, she was already hoping for an invitation from the national powerchair hockey team. On March 13, 2023 (last Monday), this wish was fulfilled. Unfortunately, for now, Dijana has to put the invitation 'on hold'. The only thing in her path, that prevents her to effectively participate in the national team, is not having her own sports wheelchair. In order to continue to grow at an international level, she lacks of a sports wheelchair.
"They often call me a pain in the ass on the field—which I honestly take as a compliment. My role on the field is to make life difficult for the opponent during that 40-minute hockey game. It would be a shame not to be allowed to grow further in this sport."
Since when is exercise something luxurious?
In the Netherlands, on the other hand, a fund was created where Dutch players have their own deposit of € 250,-. The rest is paid by the fund. This starts with the wheelchair itself, adjustments that are necessary for the player and they also offer a maintenance budget. In Belgium, we are talking about a private imposition that is at least 60 times as high. 15,000 euros counted, with which you only pay for the wheelchair, without major adjustments. With a muscle disease, such as SMA, larger adjustments are needed to make sure the player sits as comfortable and safe as possible in the wheelchair, in order to play hockey. Keeping in mind that attachments of such a sports wheelchair are more expensive than with ordinary cheelchairs and a maintenance budget is required, we aim for a collection amount of € 20,000.
Sports offers more quality in each life, with or without a disability. In addition to working and studying, everyone should be free to decide which sport she or he practices. Whether it's hockey, skiing, football or basketball. The Belgian government doesn’t quite get the fact that powerchair hockey is one of the few sports that people, like Dijana, can do as a team.
"When shall people with serious disabilities, like me, can decide for themselves which sport they practice?" asks Dijana.
Dijana's most striking trait is proving that something can be done, even if the world says it can't. A stubborn character, you may say. That is why she is launching a crowdfunding together with her parents, brother and personal carer, to be able to buy a sports wheelchair. This way she can answer 'yes' to the invitation of the national team!
Help Dijana prove otherwise, by supporting her crowdfunding campaign in any way. This action (and hopefully the conversation that ensues) is already one way for people with severe disabilities to play sports at a global level—even if it's a team sport.

Powerchair hockey je jedini timski sport koji se može trenirati kada imate težak invaliditet. Ipak, jedina pomagala za bavljenje ovim sportom smatra se luksuzom u Belgiji. Otkad je vježbanje sport nešto luksuzno?
24-godišnja Dijana Lešić iz Antwerpena igra hockej a i vidi se kako treperi preko hokejaškog terena. Sa jedne polovine, na drugu. Njen temperament može se nemilosrdno osjetiti u njenom stilu igre. Divlja, pažljiva i osjećajna.
Dijana kroz život ide kao nezavisni grafički dizajner i radi marketing društvenim mrežama. Takođe je suosnivač APHC VZW. Ipak, njen pravi izlaz je powerchair hockey. Dijana živi sa progresivnom bolešću mišića, SMA. Zahvaljujući bolesti mišića, Dijana je upoznala ovaj sport 2009. godine, u koji se zaljubila kao devetogodišnjakinja.
U to vrijeme Dijana se već nadala pozivu hokejaške reprezentacije za powerchair hockey. 13. marta 2023. godine (prošlog ponedeljka) ova želja je ispunjena. Nažalost, za sada Dijana mora staviti poziv 'na čekanje'. Jedino što joj je na putu, da efikasno učestvuje u ovoj reprezentaciji, jeste da nema svoja sportska kolica. Da bi nastavila da raste na međunarodnom nivou, nedostaju joj sportska invalidska kolica.
"Često me zovu a pain in the ass na terenu - što iskreno shvatam kao kompliment. Moja uloga na terenu je da protivniku otežam život tokom te 40-minutne hokejaške utakmice. Bila bi šteta da se ne dozvoli dalji rast u ovom sportu."
Otkad je vježbanje sport nešto luksuzno?
U Holandiji je, s druge strane, stvoren fond u kojem holandski igrači imaju svoj depozit od 250 €,-. Ostatak se plaća iz fonda. Ovo počinje sa samim kolicima, adaptacije koja su neophodna igraču, a nude i budžet za održavanje kolica. U Belgiji govorimo o privatnom nametanju koje je najmanje 60 puta veće. Računalo se 15.000 eura, čime plaćate samo invalidska kolica, bez većih prilagodbi. Kod bolesti mišića, kao što je SMA, potrebna su veća prilagođavanja kako bi igrač bio što udobniji i siguran za sport. Imajući u vidu da su prilozi takvih sportskih invalidskih kolica skuplji nego kod običnih kolica i potreban je budžet za održavanje, cilj nam je da skupimo iznosa od 20.000 evra.
Sport nudi više kvaliteta u životu svih, sa ili bez invaliditeta. Pored rada i studiranja, svako treba da bude slobodan da odluči kojim sportom se bavi. Bilo da se radi o hokeju, skijanju, fudbalu ili košarci. Belgijska vlada ne shvata da je powerchair hockey jedan od jedinih sportova koje ljudi, poput Dijane, mogu raditi u ekipu.
"Kada ču osobe sa ozbiljnim invaliditetom, poput mene, moč same da odluče koji sport če se baviti?," pita se Dijana.
Dijanina najupečatljivija osobina je dokazivanje da se nešto može učiniti, čak i ako svijet kaže da ne može. Tvrdoglav lik. Zato pokreće crowdfunding zajedno sa roditeljima, bratom i ličnim asistentom, kako bi mogla da kupi sportska kolica. Na ovaj način može da odgovori "da" na poziv nacionalnog tima!
Pomozite Dijani da dokaže da se ipak može ostvarit nesto nemoguce, podržavajući njenu crowdfunding kampanju na bilo koji način. Ova akcija (i nadamo se i razgovori koji slijedi) je već jedan od načina za osobe sa teškim invaliditetom da se bave sportom na globalnom nivou – čak i ako je to timski sport.
