The Drifter opende in 2014 zijn deuren met één doel: Gent een vleugje tropisch paradijs schenken. Wat begon als een droom van een kleine tiki-bar vol exotische cocktails, bamboe, rum en glimlachen, groeide uit tot een warme gemeenschap van dromers, reizigers en levensgenieters.

Sinds de opening heb ik duizenden mensen verwelkomd die hier hun zorgen even konden vergeten, hun verjaardag of trouw vierden, nieuwe vrienden ontmoetten of simpelweg genoten van een Mai Tai bij. The Drifter werd meer dan een bar — het werd een plek waar verhalen en herinneringen worden gedeeld.

Vandaag staat ons paradijs op wankele benen. De stijgende kosten, nasleep van moeilijke jaren en de uitdagingen van de horeca drukken zwaar. Zonder hulp riskeren we dat deze unieke plek verdwijnt.

Daarom starten we deze crowdfunding. Met jouw steun kunnen we The Drifter behouden. Elk bedrag, groot of klein, helpt ons om de tiki-vlam brandend te houden.

The Drifter opened its doors in 2014 with one goal: to give Ghent a touch of tropical paradise. What began as a dream of a small tiki bar full of exotic cocktails, bamboo, rum, and smiles, has grown into a warm community of dreamers, travelers, and bon vivants.

Since opening, I've welcomed thousands of people who have come here to forget their worries, celebrate their birthdays or weddings, meet new friends, or simply enjoy a Mai Tai. The Drifter became more than a bar—it became a place where stories and memories are shared.

Today, our paradise is on shaky ground. Rising costs, the aftermath of difficult years, and the challenges of the hospitality industry are weighing heavily. Without help, we risk losing this unique place. That's why we're launching this crowdfunding campaign. 

With your support, we can keep The Drifter alive. Every amount, big or small, helps us keep the tiki flame burning.

The Drifter a ouvert ses portes en 2014 avec un seul objectif : offrir à Gand une touche de paradis tropical. Ce qui n'était au départ qu'un rêve : un petit bar tiki rempli de cocktails exotiques, de bambou, de rhum et de sourires, est devenu une communauté chaleureuse de rêveurs, de voyageurs et de bons vivants.

Depuis son ouverture, j'ai accueilli des milliers de personnes venues ici pour oublier leurs soucis, fêter leur anniversaire ou leur mariage, rencontrer de nouveaux amis ou simplement savourer un Mai Tai. Le Drifter est devenu plus qu'un bar : c'est un lieu où l'on partage des histoires et des souvenirs.

Aujourd'hui, notre paradis est en difficulté. La hausse des coûts, les conséquences d'années difficiles et les défis du secteur de l'hôtellerie-restauration pèsent lourd. Sans aide, nous risquons de perdre ce lieu unique. C'est pourquoi nous lançons cette campagne de financement participatif. 

Grâce à votre soutien, nous pouvons maintenir le Drifter en vie. Chaque don, petit ou grand, nous aide à entretenir la flamme du tiki.

    A Drift-Sized Update - Powered by Rum, Hope & Mild Panic

    First of all: thank you. Honestly. Every single person who’s backed or shared the campaign has made me feel a little less like I’m shouting into the void with a tiki mug in my hand. Your support has been a warm hug wrapped in a lei… with just enough rum on the breath to make it meaningful.

    We’re inching closer to our next goal, and every contribution feels like someone tossing another piece of driftwood onto the little raft that keeps The Drifter floating. (A beautifully decorated raft, obviously. With torches. And questionable decisions.)

    Our first hurdle has been taken, but where not in the clear yet.
