The Artist's Way
Elk mens is een artiest. Via deze weg zoek ik steun een artistieke droom waar te maken en de wereld een beetje mooier!

Een korte geschiedenis
Voor wie mij niet kent: mijn naam is Cedric, vader van een zoon van 4, samenwonend met m'n lieve vriendin in het fijnste plekje van Amsterdam Oost. Zoals alle kinderen was ik, zo lang ik me kan herinneren altijd super creatief. Het verzinnen en vertellen van verhalen was mijn grootste talent en ik ontwikkelde een vurige passie voor het maken van gedichten, (strip)verhalen en (rap)teksten En zo ontdekte ik op jonge leeftijd dat ik een geboren artiest ben en mij artistiek móet uitdrukken om compleet mezelf te kunnen zijn.
Jaren later en vele ervaringen rijker, zie en voel ik dat ik de artiest in mij lange tijd heb verwaarloosd. Het nastreven van een carrière in de IT drong het creatieve aspect steeds verder naar de achtergrond en de inspiratiebron voor schrijven en tekenen leek te zijn opgedroogd. En dat gemis werd de motivatie om te hervinden wat ik had verloren.
Een ontdekking
Ik werk in de IT en voel dat, ondanks het feit dat ik goed ben in mijn werk, dit niet mijn roeping is. Na een aantal inzichtvolle gesprekken met familie, vrienden en coaches herontdekte ik begin 2019 mijn passie voor het maken van stripverhalen. Striptekenen is (gek genoeg) een niche markt maar uit een greep van een klein aantal opleiders vond ik een leertraject dat me aansprak:
‘The DaVinci Cartooning Course’ van PsychoTactics (lees hier meer over hun filosofie en hier voor een overzicht van hun trainingen).
Vol enthousiasme ben ik hier toen mee gestart. De opleiding was een van de meest leuke en enerverende studies die ik ooit heb gevolgd en ik zag mijn vaardigheden week na week toenemen. De studiebelasting van 10 uur per week i.c.m. met werk en vaderschap bleek echter teveel hooi op de vork en dus besloot ik te stoppen totdat mijn zoontje naar de basisschool ging.
Dat moment is nu aangebroken, echter ontbreken mij nu de financiële middelen om de opleiding af te ronden.
Cartoons met een doel: T-Shirts bedrukken met eigen ontwerp
Het striptekenen als een uitingsvorm van mijn artistieke zelf is natuurlijk mooi maar ik wil hier ook iets mee. Lang voor dat ik de opleiding ben gaan volgen was ik al bezig met het ontwerpen en maken van T-Shirts, Hoodies en Caps. En nu wil ik mijn artistieke ingevingen hieraan toevoegen en dat mensen zich mooi en zelfverzekerd voelen in het dragen van mijn ontwerpen.
Hoe nu verder?
Om de opleiding (startdatum 15 Augustus 2023) met succes af te ronden heb ik financiële middelen nodig , waarbij ik een beroep doe op jou.
Het doel is om minimaal €3488 te verzamelen bestaande uit:
- €2549 (opleiding) +
- €938,45 (materialen, tekentablet)
Met de steun van mensen die mijn wens in vervulling willen zien gaan, moet dit doel te realiseren zijn. Ik ben er in elk geval klaar voor..
Waarom een donatie?
In de eerste plaats omdat ik met de inkomsten van mijn baan momenteel niks over houd om deze opleiding te financieren en niet beschik over spaartegoeden of ander vermogen. Ten tweede kan ik geen extra krediet bij een bank nemen omdat ik hier simpelweg niet genoeg voor verdien. En ten derde leen ik liever geen geld van vrienden of kennissen. En zeker niet als ik niet kan garanderen of en wanneer ik dit kan terug betalen.
Een tegenprestatie
Omdat ik ook graag iets geef wanneer ik ontvang heb ik nagedacht over wat ik te bieden heb aan de gulle gever en ik kreeg toen het volgende idee:
Sinds maart 2020 ben ik een kledingmerk gestart genaamd ‘Adam Adapter Unlimited’. Dit ontstond uit een verlangen om mensen te inspireren zichzelf te worden en te zijn.
Dit ‘Zelf’ is te vergelijken met een superheld en ik kwam op het idee een personage te ontwikkelen genaamd Adam Adapter, als symbool of rolmodel voor een mens die via vele ervaringen van vreugde en smart, vertwijfeling en trots, haat én liefde uiteindelijk tot het realiseren van zijn werkelijke ‘super-ik’ komt.
Op dit moment heb ik 80 T-Shirts (2 modellen, zwart met geel, maten S t/m XXXL, premium bio-katoen 220 g/m2) van mijn eerste basis collectie (zie foto’s).
Wat ik nu als tegenprestatie aanbied is het volgende:
Alle donaties vanaf €50 worden gehonoreerd met een shirt van je keuze, zolang de voorraad strekt. (De kostprijs voor deze shirts zijn +/- €30 per stuk dus je ontvangt hierdoor ook nog iets waardevols!)

Als deze actie slaagt en ik aan de opleiding begin kunnen je de voortgang volgen via mijn Instagram en Facebook account (Cedric McKnight). Dagelijks zullen daar uitgewerkte opdrachten te zien zijn zodat je mijn groei- en leerproces kan meebeleven en hopelijk geïnspireerd raakt om artistiek te zijn en te blijven!

A Brief History
For those who don't know me, my name is Cedric, a father of a 4-year-old son, living together with a lovely girlfriend in the finest spot in Amsterdam East. Like all children, as far back as I can remember, I've always been super creative. Inventing and telling stories was my greatest talent, and I developed a fiery passion for creating poems, (comic) stories, and (rap) lyrics. At a young age, I discovered that I am a born artist and that I must express myself artistically to truly be myself.
Years later, after gaining many experiences, I see and feel that I have neglected the artist within me for a long time. Pursuing a career in IT pushed the creative aspect further into the background, and the wellspring of inspiration for writing and drawing seemed to have dried up. And that absence became the motivation to rediscover what I had lost.
A Discovery
I work in IT and feel that, despite being good at my job, it is not my calling. After several insightful conversations with family, friends, and coaches, I rediscovered my passion for creating comic books in early 2019. Comic drawing is (strangely enough) a niche market, but from a handful of providers, I found a learning program that appealed to me:
‘The DaVinci Cartooning Course’ by PsychoTactics (read more about their philosophy here and see an overview of their training here). I started this course with great enthusiasm. It was one of the most enjoyable and exciting studies I have ever pursued, and I saw my skills improve week after week.
However, balancing a study load of 10 hours per week, along with my job and fatherhood, proved to be too much. Therefore, I decided to put it on hold until my son started elementary school. That moment has now arrived, but I lack the financial means to continue the course.
Cartoons with a purpose: Printing T-shirts with my own designs
Using comic art as a form of expression for my artistic self is undoubtedly fulfilling, but I also want to do something more with it. Long before I started the course, I was already involved in designing and creating T-shirts, hoodies, and caps. Now, I want to incorporate my artistic inspirations into them, so that people can feel beautiful and confident while wearing my designs.
What's Next?
To successfully complete the course (starting on August 15, 2023), I need financial support, and that's where I turn to you.
The goal is to raise at least €3488, which includes:
€2549 (course fees) + €938.45 (materials, drawing tablet)
With the help of those who wish to see my dream come true, this goal should be achievable. I'm ready for it, in any case.
Why a donation?
First and foremost, because with the income from my job, I currently don't have anything left to finance this course, and I don't have savings or other assets. Secondly, I cannot take on additional credit from a bank because I simply don't earn enough for that. And thirdly, I prefer not to borrow money from friends or acquaintances, especially when I cannot guarantee if and when I can repay it.
A return favor
Since I also like to give when I receive, I have thought about what I can offer to generous donors, and I came up with the following idea:
Since March 2020, I have started a clothing brand called 'Adam Adapter Unlimited.' It originated from a desire to inspire people to become and be themselves.
This 'Self' can be compared to a superhero, and I came up with the idea of developing a character named Adam Adapter as a symbol or role model for a person who, through many experiences of joy and sorrow, doubt and pride, hate and love, ultimately realizes their true 'super-self.'
At the moment, I have 80 T-Shirts (2 models, black with yellow, sizes S to XXXL, premium organic cotton 220 g/m2) from my initial basic collection (see photos).
As a return, I offer the following:
All donations of €50 or more will be rewarded with a shirt of your choice, while supplies last. (The cost price for these shirts is approximately €30 each, so you will also receive something valuable!)
