Financiële steun voor Lucas (10)
Deze actie is opgericht voor Lucas Feyen (10) uit Grazen. Om de kans op een zo normaal mogelijk leven te vergroten.
Hallo lieve vrienden, volgers van Lucas.
Na een eindeloze reeks aan onderzoeken en doktersbezoeken, staan we weer voor een moeilijke tijd. Lucas zijn aandoening is na 10 jaar nog steeds niet opgelost.
Lucas is geboren met een schedelafwijking. Hierdoor heeft hij al drie schedelreconstructies gehad op jonge leeftijd. Later werd ontdekt dat hij ook een kleine hersenbloeding had. Dit houdt in dat Lucas zijn hersenkamers niet werken zoals het hoort waardoor hij over- of onderdruk krijgt in zijn hoofdje. In het verleden plaatsten dokters reeds twee inwendige drains om deze druk gereguleerd te houden. Toch was het plaatsen van deze drains niet voldoende om de druk op een optimaal niveau te houden. Dit maakt dat Lucas zoveel mogelijk in functie van zijn aandoening moet leven. Zo mag hij pas rond 24u gaan slapen en mag zijn nachtrust niet langer dan 7 uur duren. Hij kan het op dit moment fysiek niet aan om hele dagen naar school te gaan. Ook met vriendjes op een trampoline springen of actief spelen, hobby’s beoefenen, kan allemaal niet want dit zou de vochtbalans ontregelen. Ondanks al deze beperkende maatregelen, blijft Lucas positief in het leven staan.
Wij blijven zoeken en hopen om hem een zo normaal mogelijk leven te bezorgen. Daarom werd er in samenspraak met UZ Gent, Erasmus Rotterdam en Nijmegen besloten een drukmeting in de hersenen uit te voeren. Deze drukmeting kan ons inzicht geven in welke behandelingen er eventueel nog mogelijk zijn.
Om deze drukmeting uit te voeren, wordt er een schijfje ingepland op de bestaande drain. Deze blijft dan geruime tijd zitten en meet de druk. Zo kunnen wij in alle tijden de juiste druk meten. Omdat zijn aandoening erg uniek is en niet voorkomt in België, wordt dit alles niet terugbetaald. Dit maakt dat wij zelf opdraaien voor alle kosten die hieraan verbonden zijn (schijfje, operatie, apparaat, ziekenhuisopname en nazorg).
Het afgelopen jaar was zwaar voor Lucas. Er vonden heel wat onderzoeken en doktersbezoeken plaats. Ook deze brachten de nodige kosten met zich mee, die zich al snel opstapelden. Om een idee te geven; een consult in Nederland kost ons om en bij de 600€. Zo zijn er heel wat consulten geweest.. Door al de jaren aan onderzoek heen, is onze reserve uitgeput waardoor wij nu opzoek moeten naar funding. Enkel zo kunnen we Lucas de kans geven op een normaal leven.
Na lang twijfelen, wikken en wegen hebben we besloten om een fundraising op te richten. Om de operatie die Lucas zo nodig heeft, toch te kunnen laten doorgaan. Elke euro telt en brengt ons dichter bij een nieuwe behandeling.

After an endless series of tests and doctor visits, we are now facing another difficult time. After 10 years, Lucas' condition has still not been resolved...
Lucas was born with a skull deformity. As a result, he has already had three skull reconstructions at a young age. It was later discovered that he also had a small brain hemorrhage. This means that Lucas' ventricles are not working as they should, causing over- or under-pressure in his little head. In the past, doctors already placed two internal drains to keep this pressure regulated. Still, placing these drains was not enough to keep the pressure at an optimal level. As a result, Lucas has to adapt his life as much as possible to his condition. For example, he is not allowed to go to sleep until around midnight and his night's rest should not exceed 7 hours. He currently cannot physically handle going to school for whole days. Running around or actively playing with friends, pursuing hobbies, are all out of the question because this would upset the fluid balance. Despite all these restrictive measures, Lucas hasn’t lost his positive attitude to life.
We continue to search and hope to give him as normal a life as possible. Therefore, in consultation with UZ Gent, Erasmus Rotterdam and Nijmegen, it was decided to perform a pressure measurement in the brain. This pressure measurement can give us insight into what treatments might still be possible.
To perform this pressure measurement, a disc will be implanted on the existing drain. This is then left in place for quite some time and measures the pressure. This allows for measuring the correct pressure at all times. Since his condition is very unique and does not occur in Belgium, none of this is covered by the insurance. This means that we have to pay for all the costs involved (disc, operation, device, hospitalization and aftercare) ourselves.
The past year has been tough for Lucas. A lot of examinations and doctor's visits took place. These also involved the necessary costs, which quickly piled up. To give you an idea: a consultation in the Netherlands starts with a cost of around €600 – and there have been a lot of consultations. Throughout all the years of research, any existing reserves we had have been exhausted and we now have to look for funding. This is the only way we can give Lucas a chance for a normal life.
After long deliberation, we have decided to set up a fundraiser to be able to, in the first place, continue the operation which Lucas needs so much. Every euro counts and brings us closer to a possible new treatment. You can find more information here:
