Gaza on the Brink of Starvation: Why Are 2.3 Million People Dying of Hunger While the World Stays Silent?
directed at non-Palestinians who may not grasp the scale of the worsening catastrophe in the Gaza Strip. What’s happening there is not just a passing humanitarian crisis, but a deliberate famine, meticulously engineered, in which over two million people are being abandoned to a merciless fate.
Below is a factual and documented explanation of the underlying causes behind this total collapse of life—especially regarding food:
? What is the Gaza Strip?
Gaza is a narrow coastal strip covering just 365 square kilometers, yet it is home to over 2.3 million people, making it one of the most densely populated areas on earth. Before the war, Gaza relied almost entirely on food imports through two main crossings: the Israeli-controlled Kerem Shalom commercial crossing, and the Rafah border crossing with Egypt.
But since the Israeli incursion into Rafah in May 2024, the Egyptian crossing has been completely shut. And as of March 2025, Kerem Shalom has also been nearly entirely closed. No food trucks have entered Gaza for over 80 days. The Strip is completely besieged.
? Why Don’t People Fish from the Sea?
Despite having 40 kilometers of coastline, the sea is no longer a source of food. Fishermen are barred from venturing beyond very narrow zones under threat of gunfire. The vast majority of fishing boats have been destroyed during the war. The sea is closed to the starving.
? What About Agriculture? Why Don’t They Grow Their Own Food?
Gaza’s farmland lies along its eastern border with Israel, which has been designated a "military buffer zone" where access is forbidden. Any farmer approaching these areas is targeted. On top of that, over 90% of Gaza’s population has no access to clean drinking water due to intentional supply cuts—so how could they possibly grow crops?
? What Happened to Meat and Animal Products?
Even before the war, Gaza’s livestock was limited. Today, it’s nearly nonexistent. Airstrikes destroyed barns, and the entry of animal feed and livestock has been blocked. There are no chickens, no cows, no meat. Most residents haven’t tasted meat in many months.
? Why Don’t People Store Food?
Food storage requires electricity, which has been entirely cut off since October 2023. Massive displacement—over 1.9 million Gazans have lost their homes—has made storing any supplies impossible. People barely own anything now. How could they store food?
? Where Does the Food Come From?
The only source—tragically—is Israel, which controls the crossings and decides when and how much food can enter. A few aid trucks entered during a partial ceasefire in January 2025, but that arrangement quickly collapsed. No trucks have entered for over two months.
? What’s Happening in the Markets?
100% of bakeries have shut down due to lack of fuel and flour
A 25kg sack of flour now sells for over $530, if available
There are no vegetables, no fruit, and no fresh produce
Canned food—if found—is sold at extreme prices and doesn't meet basic needs
? What About the Children?
Famine is now a daily reality.
According to UN reports:
Over 1.2 million people face acute hunger
About 30% of the population—around 700,000 people—are in a state of “catastrophic food insecurity”
In the past few days alone, 111 people have died of hunger, 80 of them were children
In 2025, 21 children under five have died due to malnutrition
Over 5,100 children suffer from severe wasting and extreme underweight
? Are People Being Attacked While Seeking Aid?
Yes.
Since May, aid has been distributed by the U.S.-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, but these efforts have been met with violence. Since July 13, over 674 Palestinians have been killed while trying to get food—shot or trampled in stampedes.
? Is This a Natural Famine?
No.
The World Health Organization has described what’s happening as a “man-made famine”—a deliberate outcome of systematic siege and starvation.
More than 100 international organizations, including the UN and Amnesty International, accuse Israel of using hunger as a weapon of war, in clear violation of international humanitarian law.
The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Israeli officials because of this.
⚠️ Why Should You Care?
Because a famine is happening right now in the 21st century—in full view of the world.
Because silence is complicity.
Because children are literally dying of hunger every single day.
✊ What Can You Do?
Raise awareness
Pressure your political representatives to act
Support independent organizations delivering food to Gaza
Share facts, not lies
Gaza is not just a humanitarian crisis. It is a silent hunger massacre happening now.
✊ What Can You Do?
Donate if you can — even a small amount can help a family survive another day.
All donations go directly to families in need, including my own family in Gaza, who—like so many others—are struggling every day to find food, water, and safety.
Gaza is not just a humanitarian crisis. It is a silent hunger massacre. And you can be part of the help — not the silence. -

Donation Report – Week 4
This week, thanks to your continued support, we raised €919.
With these funds, we were able to bring real help to those in desperate need:
Aida and her daughter. Aida’s husband died due to bombardment, leaving Aida and their daughter without any financial means.
Raed and his family. Raed is injured and is a sole provider for his wife and 7 children.
Hanan and her daughter. The same as in Aida’s situation, Hanan’s husband died due to bombardment. She and her daughter are alone without any financial support.
Mohammad and his family. Mohammad is injured in his legs due to bombardment of his home. Together with his wife are responsible for 6 children.
Food and medical support for my own family
*To protect privacy, the full names are not displayed.*
My goal is to help 19 families in Gaza, which are in urgent need of our financial support. However, it is not possible to help each of those 19 families every week due to amount raised. The families needing our help the most receive the donations raised during the previous week.
Every euro has gone directly to urgent needs — food, medicine, survival.
In Gaza, these are not just donations. They are lifelines. They are the difference between despair and a breath of hope.
Please consider sharing the campaign link with your family and friends. You can do so here:

You Helped Me Feed 2 Families In Gaza But the Hunger Still Haunts Them
Dear friends,
Thanks to your kindness, I was able to raise €300 last week. With your support, I managed to send urgent food aid to three suffering families in Gaza:
My own family — injured, sick, and living in fear.
A family of orphans — children left alone in a world that has forgotten them.
Your help gave them a chance to breathe. But the hunger… still haunts them.
? In Gaza €100 feeds just 5 people for one day.
Prices are skyrocketing. Bread is now a treasure. Milk is a luxury.,
Right now, I am trying to support over 19 families who lost everything. Some are sleeping in tents. Some have no access to food or medicine. Some are mourning and starving at the same time.
The two families I helped — including my own — asked me to thank you.
They told me: “Tell the world we are still alive because someone cared.”
So now, I’m asking again:
? Please, share this campaign:
Even €5 can make sure a child doesn't go to sleep hungry.
Even one share could reach someone who saves a life.
From the bottom of my heart and on behalf of those you helped – thank you.

Dear friends,
This past week, 681€ was raised. I’m deeply thankful for the kindness and support I continue to receive — it truly means a lot.
Unfortunately, this week also brought unimaginable pain.
My family was struck again the sixth time by a devastating airstrike.
We lost four loved ones:
My cousin’s daughter
Her twin babies
And my cousin’s son
They were just trying to survive, like so many others.
While I’ve been doing everything I can to support those still alive, this loss has shaken me.
Every message, every act of solidarity, reminds me I’m not alone in this.
There are still lives we can save and I will keep trying, no matter how hard it gets.
For those who wish to reach out or stand with me in any way, you can contact me directly through this platform or via my personal Instagram: @alaa_alhorani77.
Your words, prayers, and presence mean more than I can ever express.
With all my heart,
Alaa❤️???

? Honest Update I Can’t Do This Alone Anymore
Dear friends,
I want to thank everyone who donated, shared, or prayed. Your support has kept us going. Last week, we raised €435 — and while I’m deeply grateful, I must speak with honesty.
My own family is in crisis:
My youngest sister is critically injured.
My older sister is also wounded.
My father is wounded.
My mother is sick and needs medical care.
On top of this, I have been supporting over 19 other families in Gazafamilies who are starving, displaced, and in urgent need. I’ve been sending them help regularly from what little I have.
But right now… I simply can’t anymore.
? The needs are too big. The costs are rising. And I am doing all of this alone.
That’s why I’m asking: please share this link.
Share it with your friends, your networks, your heart.
Even if you can’t donate, your share could reach someone who can. And that can save lives not just my family’s, but many others who are silently suffering.
? Every share, every donation, every kind word matters.
شكراً لوقوفكم مع غزة. شكراً لوقوفكم معنا.

Important Update: Families in Gaza Are Starving Please Help
While the world turns, families in Gaza are dying from hunger. Children are crying themselves to sleep with empty stomachs. Parents are breaking down because they cannot feed their sons and daughters.
This is not a crisis of tomorrow. It is happening right now.
The siege has cut off food, clean water, and basic medicine. Aid is limited, and many families are left with nothing but silence and suffering.
? Some are too weak to walk.
? Some children have already passed away from starvation.
We must act. Even €5 can mean bread, clean water, or life-saving treatment.
If you can help – even with the smallest donation – please do. Every share, every cent, every heart that cares, brings us closer to saving lives.
? Donate here and be the reason a child wakes up tomorrow with hope.

Thank you for your compassion.

Important Update From the Heart
Life in Gaza is rapidly deteriorating, and every day brings more pain and suffering to my family and countless others trapped there. My sister is still fighting for her life, and my injured relatives endure their pain in silence, while the siege and bombings show no mercy.
Childhood in Gaza is trapped by fear and hunger, and children’s dreams are fading into ashes. Yet, despite all this destruction, Gaza still pulses with hope, and I build my hope on your support and trust.
Thank you to everyone who has donated, shared, or prayed. Your support is the light that guides us through the darkest times.
I continue to send everything I can to my family, but the road ahead remains long and difficult. Please don’t stop standing with us.
